About
Andrea Cooley is a creative writer, editor, and producer. Though her physical address is Des Moines, Iowa, most days she dreams of living in a bigger city with access to an Anthropologie, Crate + Barrel, and IKEA. For now she is happy to scour design blogs, drool over websites with pretty fabric and fabulous furniture and supplement her penchant for all things beautiful with visits to friends in New York, Portland, San Francisco, and Austin. That said, she truly is a Midwest girl at heart. Though she has made her husband promise her that one day they will move somewhere (anywhere!) SOUTH of Iowa, at least for the winter,
Andrea is obsessed with magazines (if you don’t believe her, ask her husband or look under her coffee table and at the files in her office). She graduated from Drake University with degrees in Magazine Journalism and Creative Writing. She worked at Meredith Corporation as an editor for 5 years. Her passions include home design, budget-decorating ideas, and creative writing.
Her first editing job was in integrated marketing where she worked on custom publications for clients such as Daimler Chrysler (yes, she wrote about cars and enjoyed it!) and Kampgrounds of America. Then she followed her passion for homes taking a job as associate editor for Remodel magazine. There she spent 2 1/2 years writing about kitchen, bath, and whole-home remodels and researching the latest windows, flooring, faucets, and fixtures. Go ahead, ask her to recommend a faucet for your kitchen or a window for your living room. She then spent a year as product editor for Country Home where she jokes that she shopped for a living. She wrote about and researched decorating and design products ranging from furniture and fabric to antiques and accessories.
In January 2009, Country Home magazine was closed and she started working on freelance writing and web design projects.
