Feeling Crafty

img_0572

If you know me, you know that while I’m a creative person, I don’t usually get out the scissors and glue gun to create things. I may rearrange the furniture, buy a magazine for inspiration, or bake cookies, but I’m not necessarily “crafty”

Maybe I’m turning over a new leaf, or maybe I’m just really ready to go back to work, and I don’t know what to do with these cloudy June days, but I have the scissors and ruler and paper spread out on the dining room table and I’m finally doing something with my Snow & Graham calendar from last year. It was hard to cut into the first page, but the end result will be worth it.

I found 12 inch square frames (which aren’t easy to find in Des Moines) and I’m cutting out 8 inch square prints. I am having mattes made for the frames as we speak and will hang a rotating collection of seasonal prints in our living room. Finished pictures to come! I think one reason I’m not a very confident crafter is that I don’t have the patience to see a project through. I had a minor in graphic design in college and I loved learning how to manipulate text and design posters and such, but my final projects never had the polish of my roommate’s. Granted, she is an exceptional designer, who I shouldn’t even put myself in the same category with, but I was a little intimidated by her work. I do have perfectionist tendancies to be sure, but not when it comes to lining things up and spray mounting. I just couldn’t do it. I guess that’s why in my world I’m the editor and someone else is the designer. (If she’s reading this, she knows who she is and would probably cringe if she saw how dull the scissors are that I’m using)
