A one computer family
Last week I said goodbye to Milo my little white MacBook. He has been adopted by my sister Karen. I know he will be loved and well used as she starts her degree in fabric design at Iowa State this fall, and I still have a mac to work on at home (yes, we were a two mac family), but I still miss him.
Someone asked me if it would be harder to share a computer than it was for Adam and I to share a car (we were a one-car family for over a year). In the end, the car was probably harder to share, but having one computer will take some getting used to. To be fair, Adam usually brings a laptop home from work, so technically we still have two computers, and during the day I have the Mighty Mac to myself. But sometimes Adam wants to be on the mac and I have to share. Which is good for us. There’s no reason we both need to be on the computer at night. We both spend most of the day in front of the screen. But there have already been moments when I’m selfish (hard to believe, I know) and just want to look something up when he’s in the middle of reading an article. But we’re learning.
And of course, Adam made sure to transfer everything from my bookmarks to my stickies to my music and photos to his computer. He also set us each up with usernames, so it really feels like my old computer. And I do like the bigger moniter. Maybe we’ll get rid of our second TV next…
