Hello Lovely
The minute I laid eyes on this bouquet at the farmer’s market last weekend I knew I had to have it. And at $5 (and more than 20 blooms) I definitely couldn’t resist! It was one of the first booths we walked by but I didn’t care. I carried this cheerful bouquet around with me the rest of the morning. Don’t they just make you smile?

Seriously! How wonderful are these friends (yes they’re friends).
Zinnias are my favorite flowers next to peonies. I had a big pot of zinnias on our balcony that lasted about a month, but they do best in the ground.
There’s only one bloom left now. I’m ready for another bouquet! And maybe next summer I’ll have a yard to plant my own zinnias.
The second exciting thing I discovered at the farmer’s market was a mango on a stick! I wish I had taken a picture of it. We were walking along and I saw this guy with what looked like a huge chunk of cantaloupe on a stick. I asked what it was and he said a mango. Of course I had to find the vendor!
Turns out this must be a common treat in Mexico. And it’s ingenious. I love mangoes, but who wants to mess with the pits? They’re almost impossible to cut. That’s where the stick comes in. Little boys were peeling the mangoes with a vegetable peeler and then putting them on a wooden stick. Then someone cut wedges around the edges (imagine what an artichoke looks like) so you could start biting into it. THEN they asked if I wanted them to squirt fresh lime juice on it. I said yes. THEN they asked if I wanted them to sprinkle salt on it. Again, I said yes.
It was delicious! I shared a few bites with Adam, but he wasn’t a fan of the salt and lime juice. I thought it made it taste like a mango margarita. Yum!

Gorgeous bouqet - I too love zinnias, they are so “perfect” looking, you know what I mean? Also - mango on a stick?? Sign me up!!
Oh that sounds so good! Why must mango be so poison oak derivative! Hrmmmmm, I still might have to steal a bite next time I’m in town.
